Director of People & Culture
Job Summary
The Director of People & Culture will be responsible for overseeing the complete lifecycle of employee performance and engagement, ensuring a positive, effective, and supportive experience for staff members. This role will lead strategic initiatives in recruitment, talent management, employee learning and development, performance evaluation, and organizational culture. The Director will collaborate with leadership and staff across departments to ensure that People & Culture (P&C) processes align with organizational goals and values.
They will serve as a key P&C team member in fostering a workplace community that values performance, development, and meaningful employee experiences starting with recruitment and hiring through employee exits. the recruitment process by defining role competencies, creating clear and inclusive job descriptions, and ensuring competitive compensation and classification practices. They serve as the point of contact for all learning and development processes and ensuring that performance evaluation systems and training programs are continuously refined to meet the needs of staff and supervisors. Additional responsibilities include supporting staff members with goal setting and career development, managing special projects as needed, and occasionally assisting in the planning and execution of meetings and events that promote team cohesion and organizational culture.
Essential Functions
Talent Acquisition & Onboarding:
- Lead recruitment efforts, including defining role competencies, creating inclusive job descriptions, and ensuring competitive classification and compensation practices
- Collaborate with hiring managers to ensure a smooth technical and equitable hiring process
- Ensure that compensation and benefits offerings are competitive and aligned with the organization's compensation philosophy
Learning and Development & Performance Management:
- Oversee the organization's learning and development processes, ensuring alignment with employee and organizational needs
- Manage performance evaluation systems, ensuring they are effective, timely, and aligned with organizational goals and values
- Develop and implement training programs for staff and supervisors to enhance skills and performance
- Coach and support supervisors on delivering constructive feedback to their teams and supporting staff development
Employee Engagement & Support:
- Build and maintain trusting relationships with staff to foster an environment of open feedback and continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain resources for staff to better understand P&C initiatives, new policies and practices, and learning opportunities
- Support staff members with ongoing goal setting and career development to drive professional growth
- Lead exit interview processes and analyze exit data to identify trends and insights for organizational improvement
- Collect and review employee feedback to enhance the workplace experience and inform decision-making
- Collaborate with the P&C team to conduct compensation surveys and gather data on compensation for benchmarking against similar sector
Special Projects & Events:
- Lead or support special projects as needed to drive P&C initiatives and organizational objectives
- Assist in planning and executing in-person events that promote team cohesion, engagement, and organizational culture
Competencies

- Knowledge of best practices for People & Culture as well as legal knowledge of policies
- High level of proficiency in managing conflict and navigating change management
- Significant experience with project management and advanced organizational skills reflecting the ability to manage high priority tasks and responsibilities under tight deadlines and schedules while inspiring others to do the same
- Excellent interpersonal skills with experience managing sensitive and confidential situations with discretion
- Highly skilled in PC usage, Microsoft Office Platform (including Teams and SharePoint), zoom; Preferred knowledge in ATS systems like Checkwriters
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and experience working efficiently in a virtual setting
- Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively with many teams that are diverse and inclusive

Education and Experience
This position requires 7+ years of experience working with a team in various aspects of the employee lifecycle.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, salaried, exempt remote position. Business hours are generally Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. Additional hours are occasionally required.
Travel
This position requires a minimum of 5-10% travel for internal meetings and retreats as well as conferences and other events.
Compensation
The salary for this role is $126,486 - $153,048 and is based on a variety of factors including, but not limited to, geographic location, skill set level, years of previous/applicable experience, and Proteus Fund's commitment to ensuring pay equity within the organization. The recruiting team will share more details regarding salary bands based on the candidate's specific geographic location as well as the other factors noted above. Salary is one part of the total compensation that Proteus Fund provides to employees.
